Angela Shepherd - Painters
I was born in Gloucestershire and have exhibited since the age of 14. My style has developed from its early beginnings of simple naturalistic pencil drawings to the abstract and landscape. However, in recent years my work, completed in Acrylic on canvas, as well as ink on paper, has concentrated mainly on the human form with a touch of eroticism.
My paintings portray sensuality and passion and their intensity highlights the balance between fragility and strength, as well as submission and dominance. Each piece has elements of desire, longing and sexuality, combined with warmth and graceful allure. In each painting I strive to capture the beauty of the subject - to cage the angel.
Use of texture and tonal contrast bring my paintings to life, whilst lighting and composition add drama and tension. I try to ensure that each piece is imbued with emotion and feeling. However, none of my work is prescriptive, each piece furnishing the viewer with the freedom to add their own interpretation and narrative.
Artworks include traditional nude poses but the gallery is peppered with pieces illustrating fetish and submission.
