Press Release for Group Show at Cyberspy
"Group Show"
Friday 17th May to Friday 14th June Cyberspy, Golden Square, Soho W1
Magnus Petersson, Kinsi Abdulleh and Gail Astbury are the young
contemporary artists helping Lateral Arts to celebrate the launch of
its World Web site on Thursday (May 16th).
Their works will go on show at Soho cybercafe Cyberspy in an
exhibition promoted by Lateral Arts, the World Wide Web site
dedicated to bringing the best of new contemporary artists to an
international audience.
Lateral Arts was started by Web designer Simon Whiteside, Gail Astbury
and fellow artist Helen Harrison to give more young artists a forum
for explaining, showing and selling their works. Already the works
of more than 50 sculptors, painters, photographers and
installation artists can be seen at http://www.larts.co.uk together
with explanations by the artists themselves of how and why they
created them.
The three artists on show at Cyberspy, all painters, demonstrate
the sheer range which visitors to the site can enjoy.
Kinsi, from Somalia, is inspired by Persian, Indian and African
culture to create her fabulous wall hangings with gold and silver
paints on silk.
Swedish-born Magnus exploits the 16 colours of the PC paintbrush program
for one of his new works where "the central experience is that of looking
at colour in the moment".
Gail, who trained at Wimbledon School of Art, uses the image of
the body as a stage dressed with objects symbolising such life
experiences as vulnerability, pleasure and transformation.
Simon Whiteside, director of Lateral Arts, said:
"We hope this exhibition will encourage artists and art-lovers to
explore the opportunities offered by Lateral Arts for buying, selling,
discussing and simply enjoying exciting and affordable contemporary art."
The exhibition is open from Friday 17th May until Friday 14th June.
Admission is free.
