Ursula Prosser - Public Art
I am a Brighton University graduate in Fine Art Sculpture. The first sample work, a Narcissistic Greenhouse, stands 8'x6' high and is glazed with windows that face inwards. The effect is stunning and the ground level diffused lighting illuminates the glazed space to provide an eternal image experience of reflections.
Using the theory of an artist as a narcissistic creator, I use different reflective mediums to explore the power of the self image. This controls and educates the audience to study themselves in relation to the objects presented.
This piece appeared in the Guardian dated June 27th 1995.
The Circle of Narcissus flowers are planted in the concrete floor. Made from brass and silver plated, they could be seen as mirrors of ourselves in the way they feel a vulnerability towards an audience. Delicate and enchanting in a group or singularly, they mark a definite presence.
Eternalised and captured, made from original flowers, grown from bulbs planted by myself, they mark a stopping point in the natural growing and developing process.
Currently working on assistant design work for a small theatre in London, I aim to
continue producing my own work, and I welcome new commissions, which I will undertake with
a demonstration of my wit, ongoing direct approach and personality!!
